Amy B.
Private tutor in Front Royal, VA
Education
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in Illustration and a minor in Sequential Art (comics, storyboards, etc). In 2014, I graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 and my work has been featured in various student exhibitions. My training included a variety of media including drawing, watercolor painting, printmaking (block, stencil, and monoprint), ink, collage, and digital software (in particular Adobe Photoshop). I have made books, comics, posters, concept art, and others. I know how to matte, mount, and frame artwork professionally, and how to write artist statements and set up portfolios. Along with practical concerns, my program covered art history and objective critique. I am knowledgeable in major periods and movements of art, color theory, and design principles. Part of my training in sequential also included scripting and storytelling.
Experience
I currently work part time as an English tutor at a school that prepares students for the TOEFL and SSAT tests as well as general English language skills. As a native English speaker and a prolific reader, I am also capable of tutoring this subject. Having worked as a tutor for the past year in this context, I realized that I enjoy teaching and working with students. I want to help students to bring their work to a higher standard, and for them to hopefully enjoy the process.

Hobbies
It's probably obvious that I like art, especially trying out new media and approaches. I like making things in general, so I also enjoy knitting and crochet. I read often, usually fiction novels (especially science fiction and fantasy), some science and history nonfiction, graphic novels, and movie reviews. Currently, I'm also studying Japanese, but my level is still pretty low.
